"BREAK OVER!"

I used to love those words as a kid!  I typically waited anxiously to get the word from the lifeguard that I could jump in the pool again.

Today, I decided to look at some fabulous homes with fabulous pools.  And, yes, the heat and humidity here in South Carolina have something to do with it!

These outdoor and indoor spaces are defintely chic!

PURPLE

This color inspires creativity and higher thinking.

People tend to be either totally for purple or against it.  Remember, it can look beautiful on walls or in small doses in a space.  The more and more I learn---the more I learn that being closed minded is not always productive, and it can be a good idea to entertain the ideas you usually shut down.  If you never do this...you will never stretch yourself and grow your creativity.

Take a look...

VINTAGE VUITTON = CHIC TABLE

Recognize this print?  I sure do.  Well these vintage Louis Vuitton suitcases aren't just being used for their namesake--they are being used as tables in home decor.

Traditional Home recently did an article on these vintage jewels.  They expressed that "first class passengers with lavish wardrobes appreciated Vuitton's strong, well-crafted trunks with hand stitched leather handles and burnished brass locks that secured the goods with style."  Monsieur Vuitton began designing luggage in 1854, and later his son, George Vuitton began wrapping the monogram print on luggage around the 1890s.  Around 1959, grandson Gaston Vuitton introduced the print on soft luggage--which was a new requirement in some airports at the time.  Even with their new products on the market, Traditional Home claims that "its the earlier, heavier hard-sided trunks that turn heads at auction."  "Soft sided luggage can't transform into a side table or coffee table" notes specialist Abigail Rutherford of Leslie Hindman auctions in Chicago.

RED.. WHITE.. AND BLUE!!!!!

In honor of the 4th of July right around the corner...red, white and blue spaces are waiting to be seen.  Let's be honest, patriotic-themed rooms can easily become a bit much....not these!  These are quite tasteful.

Have a great day!

COVERED IN GINGHAM

Gingham.

Although we know it for its checkered pattern, it was originally imported into Europe in the 17th century as a striped fabric.  As it was being produced in the mills of Manchester, England during the mid 18th century, it started to be woven into checked or plaid patterns.  More often than not...in blue and white.  Ever since...it has lingered on... fading in and fading out.  Well....it's back.

As always, look to see what's on the runway.  Here are some of the gingham looks by Christopher Kane for Spring/Summer 2010.

This all-American print is also being seen in home decor.  It is chic and colorful on furnishings and fabric more than ever!
