COLLECTING ARTWORK ON A BUDGET

Artwork can be expensive! One day after realizing my walls were completely blank, my husband and I were purposeful about visiting art galleries. I must say that we have always enjoyed browsing art galleries when traveling, but it’s another story when looking at the price tag on the pieces we love!

So how do you collect art work without going bankrupt?

  • Collecting bargain priced artwork from antique stores is a great option! I am drawn to great finds, which are in the details: wood over plastic frames, original watercolors and ink prints, black and white studies. You can even find great priced paintings on canvas! Keep in mind that the positive of purchasing artwork from antique stores is that they generally come framed!

  • Art.com. I have found the exact same prints used in a design store (which will remain nameless) on art.com for drastically cheaper! Next time you fall in love with a framed print in an overpriced store, try searching for it on this site. You will be amazed!

  • Framing maps is an inexpensive way to create wall art. An interesting look is using an antique map, which can be an easy find on ebay. Are you or your family from another state? Is there a particular place that you have a special memory of or have always treasured? Why not add a personal touch with a framed map?

  • I must say the do it yourself approach is inexpensive! For those that are not artistically gifted, thankfully for you, contemporary artwork is in! Buy canvas that is already stretched, acrylic paint and let your imagination run wild! Most craft stores always have great sales on art supplies.
