WHAT IRON HATH WROUGHT

Ironwork=art. It makes a statement and is eye-catching. I love how it is unexpected--being in places that usually hold wood. Whether it be the stairwell, console or door, it adds a beautiful touch and instant character!

A room looks more interesting when you mix materials and textures. It's always good to push yourself and think outside of the box. Maybe choosing a decorative iron console for the entry would look more interesting than a wooden chest. Remember that a collected look is always better than a matchy-matchy look. Decorative ironwork is great because it often adds contrast to its surroundings.

This is one of my favorite entry photos. I love how the console mirrors the door and windows. The bright, yellow paint color looks amazing and helps pull off a stricking look with the ironwork.

Bunny Williams always delivers! This space is gorgeous!

YELLOW

Yellow is a great color.

It can have great impact in a room and works in many spaces. Not enough or too much natural light doesn't limit this color's wonderful potential on the wall. If you have few windows in a space, yellow creates light. Yellow looks great in rooms with natural light because it makes it appear paler. This color looks fabulous when used as a dash of color in a space with contrasting color, such as a deep, rich brown. Love it!

SMELLIN' GOOD...

A wonderful way to freshen a room is using linen spray. My favorite scents are Basil Blue Sage and Sea Salt Neroli by Caldrea. Linen spray works great on clothes (while ironing) and for freshening bed linens. I must admit that I spray it sometimes on my upholstered pieces. I find that these Caldrea scents tend to leave a pleasant fragrance, while not leaving an overwhelming scent throughout your home.

FYI: Caldrea claims that they use the finest plant-derived ingredients and essential oils to provide natural freshness and cleaning potency.

For me, a bottle of linen spray tends to last a LONG time. For that reason, I find that Caldrea's $12 price tag for a 32 oz. bottle is a reasonable price...especially for a higher-end product.

LIVING IT UP OUTSIDE

One day we're going to get around to sprucing up our backyard. And, boy, do I have plans! Ha! It's amazing how some seating and a table can add more square footage to your home.

I enjoy learning from my favorite designers. I often find myself reading and absorbing anything Bunny Williams because I find her and her design so inspiring.

NEW YORK IN HISTORIC CHARLESTON

One of my favorite places is Charleston, South Carolina. And, one of my favorite things to do there is tour historic homes. What's even more amazing is that I never once toured a home or took a carriage ride until I finished school there..how crazy, right?!

Today I decided to share with you a beautiful historic home in Charleston that is owned by New York designer Eric Cohler. His style is described as, "a traditionalist's with an appreciation for contemporary design." With a master's degree in historic preservation, he fell in love with this home after attending the Spoleto Festival. He claims that staying in this house during the festival "seduced him at once." Cohler purchased the property the following autumn. He bought most of his furnishings in South Carolina and although he grew up in New York, he claims "Charleston as home."
